The Policy of Screening for Plagiarism/Plagiarism Checker

1. The  Journal of Medical and Oral Biosciences (JMOB) has a zero-tolerance policy toward plagiarism. All submitted manuscripts are traced through Turnitin. The author should provide a similarity review report for the submitted Manuscript or mention the percentage in the cover letter to avoid earlier rejection due to plagiarism. The policy of JMOB against plagiarism is as follows:

A. If the Manuscript has a similarity index of over 25%, it will be rejected directly and returned to the author, with no further processing stage.

B. If the Manuscript's similarity index is below 25%, the editor will ask the authors to improve it and reduce the percentage before proceeding to the next processing stage.

C. If the Manuscript is below a 15% similarity index, it will proceed to the next processing stage.

To guarantee the transparency, honesty, and responsibility in academic publication, the following policies follow COPE (Committee on Publication Ethics) guidelines should be apply, these are:

1.     Corrections:

The minor mistakes that do not affect the whole results or conclusions of the article (e.g., typographical mistakes, minor data errors, or author details) will be addressed within an authorized correction notice, published online and linked to the original article.

2.     Retractions

If substantial errors, ethical breaches, plagiarism, data fabrication, or other forms of research misconduct are identified that significantly affect the validity or integrity of the published work, the article will be retracted. A retraction notice will explain the reason and remain linked to the original article, which will be clearly marked as retracted.

3.     Withdrawals (Pre-publication)

Authors may appeal to withdrawal his/ her manuscript before publication if reasonable reasons are provided (e.g., major errors, duplicate submission). Once an article is published, withdrawal is no longer possible; instead, the correction or retraction process applies.

Authors or their institutions may be responsible for covering article processing charges (APCs) upon acceptance of their manuscript, which is 150.000 Iraqi Dinars for Iraqi researcher and it is free of charge for all international researcher. Waivers or discounts may be available in certain cases for Iraqi authors.

 Archiving Policy

   To ensure the long-term preservation and continued accessibility of all published content, Journal of Medical and Oral Biosciences maintains the following archiving measures:

    1.Digital Preservation: All articles are permanently archived on Al-Iraqia university  servers with regular backups.

   2.  Institutional Repository: A copy of each published article is deposited in the College of Dentistry / Al-Iraqia university Repository.

    3.   Author Self-Archiving: Authors are encouraged to deposit the final published PDF in personal, institutional, or subject-based repositories immediately upon publication, provided a proper citation to the journal version is included.

       4. Metadata Preservation: Article metadata, including abstracts, keywords, and DOIs, are stored in multiple indexing databases to ensure discoverability over time.

      5. The PKP Preservation Network (PN) provides free preservation services for any OJS journal that meets a few basic criteria.

The Journal of Medical and Oral Biosciences (JMOB) follows the policies and guidelines of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and abides by its Code of Conduct in dealing with potential cases of misconduct. Accordance the COPE guidelines, the JMOB is dedicated to manage all complaints concerning its editorial processes, peer review, and publication ethics with justice, transparency, and in Scope of Complaints: Complaints may relate to

·       editorial decisions

·       delays in processing

·       peer review quality

·       breaches of confidentiality

·       author or reviewer conduct

·       or concerns about research or publication ethics.

Complaints processing

1.     Authors need to submit writing complaints to the editorial office via email: [email protected]

2.     Complainants should provide full details, including their name, affiliation, manuscript reference number, and a clear description of the issue.

3.     All handling Process will be approved within 4 working days.

4.     The complaint will investigate fairly by the Editor-in-Chief (or an appointed representative not involved in the matter)

5.     A written response will be provided within a couple working weeks where possible. Complex cases may take longer, in which case the complainant will be updated regularly.

6.     Authors may apply for appeals, if the petitioner is unsatisfied with the outcome, they may request a review by the publisher or an independent ethics committee.

7.     The complaint particulars will be kept confidential and used solely for resolving the matter to assure the confidentiality of the complaint.

  Data should be cited in the same way as articles, books, and web citations, and authors are required to include data citations as part of their reference list. Data citation is appropriate for data held within institutional, subject-focused, or more general data repositories. It is not intended to take the place of community standards such as in-line citation of GenBank accession codes.  When citing or making claims based on data, authors must refer to the data at the relevant place in the manuscript text and in addition provide a formal citation in the reference list. The journal of Medical and Oral Biosciences (JMOB) follows the format proposed by the Joint Declaration of Data Citation Principles: Authors; Year; Dataset title; Data repository or archive; Version (if any); Persistent identifier (e.g. DOI)”.
